Poem by Matheson Bayley, 2003
Hubbub, chaos, time to choose
Blind the beggar – friendly spook
Myriad wares in subfusk hues
Clang and clutter of the Souk
Imam call and secca wood
Salaam, per chance, to those in need
Henna, cobra, couscous, oud
Gaggle of gamins – haggle agreed
And glitt’ring in the fading light
Something seductive catches the eye
Come shisha pipe or catamite
The vegetable boy who’s passing by
For spice that’s nice and meat that’s fresh
Try your luck in Marrakech!
